Holliday Park, Indianapolis Senior Session | Mary

Before I say anything, I want to give all the credit to sweet Mary for picking such cool locations for her senior session. She is an artist with such an innovative eye so just being in her presence is inspiring for me!

We broke up her session into two days and started off at Holliday Park in Indianapolis. I feel like a good descriptor for Mary would be “quirky” so I really wanted her session to embody that characteristic. I rarely had to give her much direction because she’d create such fun angles with her body. I just loved how she expressed herself, and wish I would have had those traits at 18! I mean her outfits alone were so wonderfully unique and perfectly her.

Mary really had a vision of taking photos at Midland Arts and Antiques, a HUGE three story antique mall in downtown Indianapolis. I was so glad she suggested this because I don’t think I would have ever thought to shoot there. There were endless nooks for us to shoot in, each one telling a different type of story. Rooms filled with chandeliers, a library-inspired book corner, racks and racks of vintage clothing —the possibilities could have kept us there for days. I honestly need to go back and do some shopping for myself.

This was such a wonderful example of how your portrait or senior session can look however you’d like it to. Don’t feel pressured to do what is “normal” or what everyone else is doing. These photos should be a glimpse into who you are as a person. They should represent your current phase of life and feel authentic to you. You are unlike anyone else, so why not translate that individuality into your photos.
