Mod 60’s Styled Session in Chicago | Maria

So rarely do I take the time to shoot for fun. When Samantha approached me about doing a duel styled shoot for fun, I had to jump at the opportunity. Styled shoots are such a wonderful way to think outside the box and gain a new sense of inspiration. It really allows for all “rules” to be thrown out the window and for play and exploration to take over.
Sam and I made a mood board and began dreaming up a direction for the shoot. It wasn’t long before a creative team and time in the studio came to fruition. I decided to shoot on 35mm film to better my knowledge and skill for film photography. This was the perfect low-stress environment to practice.

Maria was wonderful because she was down for anything and everything. We had decided to go in a mod, 60’s direction for the shoot so Kelly and Taylor styled her makeup and wardrobe with this in mind. It turned out better than we could have imagined.

I wish I took the time to do creative shoots like this more often. Often I let the excuse of life and work get in the way. But this was such a good reminder of how important it is to find different sources of inspiration. I walked away with a new eye and excitement towards my professional work. An artist needs to be refueled every once in a while in order to create innovative imagery. That ounce of freedom experienced in the studio was all I needed to fill my cup of inspiration.
