Humboldt Park, Chicago Senior Session | Matilda

I love photographing seniors because it makes me feel like a proud big sister. They tend to let go and trust the process with greater ease. Their age reflects their willingness to release control in the best way.

Matilda has hopes to attend art school next year so she was totally on board with getting creative and having fun with her session. Her mom tagged along which also helped her loosen up and get comfortable right away. We took our time walking around Humboldt Park, chatting and stopping to shoot whenever the light looked nice. The golden fall colors wonderfully matched Matilda’s free-spirited energy.

These types of sessions tend to be my favorite because I feel like I have complete freedom to explore. I’m able to connect with my subject, connect with nature, and connect with my intuition all at the same time. It’s hard to explain, but it’s an intuitiveness that guides the direction of the shoot —not fear or anxiety or any sort of expectations.

These moments are so beautiful to me and such a reminder of how I’d like all my shoots to feel.
