Lincoln Square In-Home Maternity Session | Steph & Kyle

I’ve known Steph for close to six years now if I had to guesstimate. We’ve worked together on many photoshoots and even traveled to Finland together TWICE. Not many people can say that about one another. She’s someone who is so easy to be with. Her go-with-the-flow personality is especially appreciated in any sort of work environment. We’ve bonded over our love for music (although her taste is a million times better than mine) and hate for food that once mooed or oinked. So when she reached out to book a maternity session, it was an immediate “omg when are you free?” from me.

Steph and Kyle have been together for quite some time. When you’ve known someone for that long, your relationship with them starts to encompass a sense of ease. A routine of comfort and security. That’s what I felt in Steph and Kyle’s relationship and that’s what I really wanted to capture in the photographs that we created together.

We started in their Lincoln Square home as the golden light was peeking through their living room windows. I told them “let’s recreate what a normal evening at home looks like”, so they relaxed on the couch, gave their two cats some love, and danced as music from the record player filled their space.

We headed to River Park before the sun escaped us, a neighborhood park they frequent often. The summer colors were vibrant and painted the most beautiful landscape for Steph, Kyle, and their soon-to-be little one. We chatted about potential baby names and if they had guesses on if the baby was a boy or girl. It felt so natural like hanging out with an old friend.

The best part about the whole session was getting to document it on 35mm film. From day one, Steph wanted her session captured on film to capture the true nostalgia of this unique time in their lives. Film creates an essence that’s impossible for digital photos to replicate. It’s difficult to put into words, but there’s a magic there. A type of magic that replicates a part of your soul and puts it into a single photograph. It’s remarkable, really.

Can’t wait to meet your sweet baby, Steph & Kyle! Congrats <3
