Skokie Lagoons Family Session | The D'Angelos

I don’t often get to have sessions outside of Chicago so when I do, I take it as an opportunity to explore something new. As much as I love shooting in the city, some locations can feel repetitive with time. 

The evening could not have been more perfect for my first time visiting the Skokie Lagoons. The golden light was peaking as the D’Angelo family arrived for their family session. This was one of those shoots where time slipped by in an instant. It was so easy to get wrapped up in the world-wind of energy two toddlers contain. It’s alluring really — a contagious type of joy. The pure excitement from little ones is something so beautifully innocent.

I have immense gratitude for these moments when I’m photographing a family. What a privilege to be let into their lives, even if just for a few moments. The joy I get to document and feel in return is the best reward out there.
