ARROYO SECO

Arroyo Seco!!!! Ever heard of it? yeah me neither. It’s a beautiful quiet town about an hour north of Taos, New Mexico. Last month, I had the privilege of traveling to this special place to photograph Arroyo Seco Live, an annual free musical event that celebrates the community and cultures of Arroyo Seco. Opening the show with songs and chants from their heritage were the Hail Creek Singers from the local Taos Pueblo, followed by the bluesy street-style tunes of New Orleans 8-piece Mardi Gras Indian band, Cha Wa. The energy was so fun to be apart of and document that evening. So much of this trip felt impactful to me. I can’t quiet articulate why. I’ve always been drawn to the west and have felt grounded by it’s landscape. There’s just so much depth and mystery in the mountains. Their magnificence swallows you and causes your world to shrink. Very little else matters when you’re in a place like this.

Apart from shooting Seco Live, I had a fair amount of free time to explore on my own as well as with Grace and Chiara <3 One morning, we drove a couple hours to Ojo Caliente, a hot springs spa outside Taos. Along the way we stopped and got out to see Rio Grande Gorge Bridge which was simultaneously beautiful and terrifying. The photo at the very bottom does not do it justice. And then I didn’t document really any much more of the trip. Thank you for listening to me ramble!!! Enjoy!
